Wynyard
Municipal Band Senior Band 2010
|
The Wynyard Municipal Band Inc. wishes to welcome all visitors to this site. We hope that you will find some useful information and at the same time learn something about our Concert Band.
The township of Wynyard is situated on the North West coast of Tasmania. A rich rural hinterland and wilderness area provides the setting for many of the activities that are important to the town. Intensive vegetable and flower growing together with cropping dairying, flower growing and tourism forms the economic base for our area. The municipality also boasts a wide range of scenic attractions, most prominent is Table Cape which dominates the town.
Wynyard is linked to the Australian mainland via a 55 minute flight from Melbourne's Tullamarine Airport. The ferry terminal at Devonport, just a short drive away, provides a daily ferry service to and from Melbourne. Taking or bringing your own vehicle is thus not a problem.
The Band was established in the late 1800s by Mr. Clarry Nett and soon had a membership of 40 or more talented musician from around the district.
The Wynyard Concert Band currently has approximately 80 members across the senior, development and beginner bands, drawn from a wide cross section of the community, ranging from primary school children to the more senior members of our community. We are growing steadily through the promotions of our activities. The band receives a great deal of support from our local community and, in particular, the Waratah-Wynyard council. We strive to repay this support through performances at local functions and parades throughout the year.
New members are always welcome and we encourage you to come along to learn or just to enjoy making music with us.
Please feel free to browse our pages and to contact us if you think we can help or assist you in any musical way. Please also visit our calendar of events and see if you can make it to some of our popular concerts.
